Materials for printed circuit boards
The choice of the right PCB material determines the function, reliability and service life of electronic systems. Materials influence electrical properties, thermal load capacity and the stability of a printed circuit board throughout its entire period of use.
At Storz, we do not consider materials in isolation, but in combination with feasibility, design and delivery time. This results in printed circuit boards that function reliably from a technical perspective - from the first sample through to series production.

Base materials for printed circuit boards
In PCB production, we mainly use the proven composite material FR4. FR4 consists of epoxy resin and woven glass fibre and offers a balanced ratio of mechanical stability, electrical performance and thermal load capacity.
Depending on the application, layer stack-up and load profile, we process FR4 in different variants. The suitable base material is selected on a project-specific basis and always with a view to later suitability for series production.
FR4 variants - technical overview
For further technical details, we provide an overview of the FR4 base materials used at Storz. The table contains selected material parameters and serves as guidance for development and quality assurance.
Solder resists and functional coatings
Solder resists and functional coatings play a central role in the protection, electrical safety and reliability of printed circuit boards. They protect conductor tracks from environmental influences, prevent short circuits and support clean processing during assembly.
When applying the well-known green solder resist using a curtain-coating process, viscosity is specifically adjusted in combination with line speed. Solvents are used to ensure a stable curtain. The resulting solvent vapours are treated via a biofilter.

Chemical processes and materials
Chemical processes are an essential part of PCB production. They influence adhesion, surface quality and the long-term stability of printed circuit boards.
At Storz, coordinated chemical processes are used to ensure reproducible results and stable processes. The selection and use of chemicals are controlled, documented and carried out in accordance with applicable quality standards.

Additional colours for printed circuit boards
For applications with special requirements, we process selected additional colours. Selection is project-specific and carried out in close coordination with our customers.
